The wait is over for fans of urban fantasy. The much-anticipated sequel to Shadows Rising (Book 1 of The Celestial Chronicles) is here. Shadows Revealed catapults readers back into the high-stakes world of demi-gods, vengeful deities and angelic conspiracies — all unfolding against the chaotic, neon-lit backdrop of modern-day Mumbai.
At the heart of this new instalment is Akran — “the most unloved celestial in all the three realms” — whose troubles have multiplied since we last saw him. Pursued by assassins, stalked by a furious goddess and trailed by a host of angels and mysterious strangers, Akran faces his most dangerous quest yet: healing a rift between worlds before everything he loves is destroyed. Monteiro blends myth and metropolis into a narrative that is at once fast-paced, witty and steeped in irony, bringing Indian readers a rare genre: an urban fantasy of demi-gods set not in New York or London but in their own backyard.
A Fresh Voice in Urban Fantasy
With Shadows Revealed, Monteiro expands the mythology of The Celestial Chronicles while deepening the emotional core of his protagonist. Readers will encounter dazzling action sequences, unexpected humour and a gallery of vivid characters drawn from myth, legend and the author’s imagination. The book is poised to resonate with fans of Neil Gaiman, Rick Riordan and contemporary Indian fantasy alike.

About the Author
Rohan Monteiro has never been content with ordinary jobs or ordinary stories. As a child, he wanted to be Flash Gordon, Batman and Bon Jovi — none of which were considered viable careers. Writing, however, proved to be the perfect alternative: it pays little, confers modest fame but allows him to avoid people, read voraciously under the pretext of “research” and invent worlds where the impossible feels inevitable.
Shadows Revealed is his second novel in the urban-fantasy series set in Mumbai. With its mix of action, irreverent humour and mythic scale, the series has already begun to carve out a cult following in Indian genre fiction.
