HarperCollins Publishers India brings together four beloved stories in The Big Book of Gopi Stories, a delightful collection by bestselling author Sudha Murty that captures the world as seen through the gentle, curious eyes of a dog named Gopi.
Written in Sudha Murty’s inimitable, deeply empathetic style, the book reminds readers—young and old—why pets hold such a special place in our lives. Through Gopi’s innocent observations, boundless affection, and quiet wisdom, these stories celebrate companionship, kindness, and the small moments that make a family whole.
The collection traces Gopi’s life across four beautifully told stories, each marking a new phase of his journey.
In Coming Home, readers meet Gopi as he is adopted by his loving human family. From a tiny bundle of white fur, Gopi quickly grows into a perceptive young pup who understands his world—and his people—often faster than they understand him. It is a tender story of belonging, trust, and the joy of finding home.
Finding Love follows a more confident, stronger Gopi—now cheekier, more mischievous, and full of energy. As he encounters new challenges, new situations, and fellow canine companions, Gopi’s world expands, bringing laughter and lessons along the way.
In Growing Up, Gopi matures further, discovering new interests and new adventures. A charming new presence, Nova, enters his life, and with her comes change, companionship, and the beginnings of a new family—told with warmth and gentle insight.
The collection concludes with Gopi’s Day Out, an unforgettable adventure that begins when Gopi gets lost on the streets. As he navigates a world beyond the safety of home, he befriends a kind street dog who becomes his companion for the day. Together, they experience a city full of surprises, compassion, and resilience—making it a day unlike any other.
Together, these stories form a touching portrait of growing up, loving deeply, and learning about the world—through the eyes of a dog who sees humanity at its best.
