A new children’s book is helping families introduce Christianity to little ones—one letter at a time.

ABC of Christianity for Kids by Barry O’Brien uses the alphabet to walk young readers through the people, symbols, and values at the heart of the Christian faith.

A is for Adam. B is for Bible. C is for Christ.

From there, the book continues through 26 letters, each one bringing a story or lesson to life with colourful illustrations and simple language.

Children learn about central figures like Jesus Christ and Mother Mary. They discover the meaning behind festivals like Christmas and Easter. And along the way, they encounter gentle ideas like love, forgiveness, kindness, and compassion.

A teacher’s touch

The author, Barry O’Brien, knows how to speak to young minds. A former school teacher, he has spent over three decades writing bestselling textbooks in literature, general knowledge, and value education for leading publishers.

His 2022 book, The Anglo-Indians: A Portrait of a Community, was praised by author Ruskin Bond as “a stupendous work.”

Now, O’Brien turns his attention to children’s spiritual learning—with a light touch and a warm heart.

More than just an alphabet book

While the ABC format makes it accessible for ages 3 to 8, the book doesn’t shy away from substance. It introduces biblical figures, symbols, and short stories that even parents may find themselves learning from.

The opening verse from Proverbs 22:6 sets the tone: “Train up a child in the way he should go…”

O’Brien takes that seriously—but not heavily. The result is a book that feels like a bedtime story, not a sermon.

Beyond writing

Interestingly, O’Brien is not just an author. He was nominated to represent the Anglo-Indian community in the West Bengal legislative assembly (2006–2011) and has been the elected president-in-chief of the All-India Anglo-Indian Association since 2016.

He also runs a home for the elderly and works with outreach initiatives of the East India Charitable Trust and the Telegraph Education Foundation in Kolkata.

That real-world kindness, readers say, shines through in his writing.

Perfect for gifting

ABC of Christianity for Kids is ideal for baptisms, first communions, Sunday schools, or simply for families wanting to share their faith in a gentle, joyful way.

It is simple, colourful, and kind—a lovely first step into faith for little ones.
