Tamaasha Theatre is set to present a special performed reading of Ladies’ Tailor, the acclaimed novel by author Priya Hajela, through two live literary-theatre events in Mumbai and Pune later this month.

Directed by writer, filmmaker, and theatre practitioner Sapan Saran, the staged reading will feature performances by actors Mithil Raj, Shreya Sandilya, Subhashree Sahoo, and Vidur Khullar. Designed as an immersive literary and theatrical experience, the production aims to bring the emotional world and layered characters of Hajela’s novel to life for audiences through voice, performance, and dramatic interpretation.

The event will be held on Saturday, 23 May 2026 at The White Crow Books & Coffee, BKC, Mumbai, at 5:30 PM, followed by a second performance on Sunday, 24 May 2026 at Effingut Verandah, Pune, also at 5:30 PM.

Blending literature with live performance, the staged reading format offers audiences an intimate engagement with the text while preserving the emotional depth and narrative texture of the novel. The production is expected to appeal to both theatre enthusiasts and readers interested in contemporary literary storytelling.

Ladies’ Tailor has drawn attention for its nuanced exploration of identity, relationships, and social realities, and the upcoming performances seek to reinterpret the narrative through a collaborative theatrical lens. By combining spoken performance with dramatic staging, the reading aims to create a space where literature and theatre intersect in a deeply personal and engaging way.

Tamaasha Theatre, known for its experimental and literary-driven productions, continues to explore alternative storytelling formats that bridge contemporary writing and performance art. Under the direction of Sapan Saran, the upcoming presentations are expected to offer audiences an evocative interpretation of Hajela’s work while highlighting the growing interest in live literary events and performed readings within India’s cultural landscape.

The performances are open to audiences in Mumbai and Pune, with organisers inviting literature lovers, theatre audiences, and members of the cultural community to attend the event.
