Bestselling author Sujata Massey, known for her acclaimed Perveen Mistry mystery series, has released a new novel titled The Star from Calcutta. Published in March 2026, the book takes readers into the world of India’s silent film era, blending murder, legal intrigue, and historical drama in 1920s Calcutta and Bombay.

Born in England to Indian and German parents, Massey grew up in Minnesota and later became a reporter for the Baltimore Evening Sun before turning to fiction writing full-time. Her earlier novel The Widows of Malabar Hill became an international bestseller and earned major mystery awards including the Agatha, Macavity, and Mary Higgins Clark Awards.

Massey is also widely recognized for her Rei Shimura mystery series set in Japan. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
