Bestselling author Amish Tripathi marked his debut in children’s literature with the Mumbai launch of Dhruv-Tara & The Great Indian History Quiz at Crossword, Kemps Corner, on Friday.

The event, organised by Westland Books, brought together young readers, parents and book lovers, including five children from Yuva Unstoppable, an organisation working to empower children and transform government schools across India.

Tripathi was joined on stage by his son, members of the book’s creative team and the young readers for the unveiling of the book. The launch was followed by a conversation between Tripathi and Vidhi Bhargava, Publisher, Children’s and Acquiring Editor at Westland Books.

During the discussion, Tripathi spoke about his move into children’s fiction and his aim of presenting Indian history through adventure, humour and storytelling rather than as a collection of dates and facts. Dhruv-Tara is the first book in a planned seven-title middle-grade adventure series.

The evening also featured the screening of the book trailer and a special video message from actor and author Twinkle Khanna, who congratulated Tripathi and praised his ability to engage readers and spark curiosity through storytelling.

An interactive Q&A session followed, with children and parents asking questions about the book’s characters, history and the writing process. The event concluded with a book-signing session, giving readers an opportunity to meet the author and get their copies signed.

Speaking at the launch, Tripathi said the event was particularly meaningful because of the presence of children supported by Yuva Unstoppable. He said the series aims to make history engaging and accessible while helping young readers connect with India’s civilisational heritage.

Dhruv-Tara & The Great Indian History Quiz follows Dhruv, a competitive student, and Tara, his curious new classmate and rival. The two are selected to represent their school in the country’s biggest student history contest and are forced to work together. Their preparation takes them through India’s past, introducing them to forgotten queens, ancient universities and historical symbols while they face challenges and formidable competitors.

Tripathi has written 13 books, with his works selling more than eight million copies and being translated into 21 Indian and international languages. He is also a former diplomat and broadcaster.
