Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, has launched his new book You Are The Sky: An Ancient Guide to Modern Feelings, which brings together Vedantic philosophy and contemporary psychology to explore how people can better understand and manage their emotions.
Published by Pan Macmillan India, the book has already generated strong interest, with nearly 7,000 copies sold before its official launch at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
The book uses the metaphor of the sky and passing clouds to explain its central idea — emotions may come and go, but they do not define a person. It looks at emotions such as anger, fear, jealousy, guilt and sadness, and examines how they can influence thoughts, behaviour and relationships.
Rather than asking readers to suppress difficult emotions, Swami Swaroopananda encourages them to recognise and understand what they are feeling without becoming completely identified with it. The book also looks at positive emotions such as love, happiness and pride, and how dependence on external circumstances for these feelings can affect inner stability.
At the launch, Swami Swaroopananda said that people today are trained to deal with the challenges of the outside world but often receive little guidance on understanding their inner world. He said the book attempts to connect ancient Vedantic wisdom with modern psychology to help readers respond to emotions with greater awareness and freedom.
The launch event began with a welcome address by Pujitha Krishnan, Editorial Director, Pan Macmillan India, and was followed by a conversation between Swami Swaroopananda and filmmaker and talk show host Vinay Bharadwaj. The discussion focused on emotional triggers and the book’s “Sky” perspective, followed by an interaction with the audience.
The event was attended by diplomats, senior advocates, CEOs, psychologists, therapists, artists, academics and media personalities.
The launch also comes as Chinmaya Mission marks its 75th year. Founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951, the organisation is celebrating the milestone through the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, culminating in the Chinmaya Global Sammelan in New Delhi from October 23 to 25.
Swami Swaroopananda has been associated with Chinmaya Mission for several decades and was ordained as a monk in 1985 by Swami Chinmayananda. He currently oversees more than 350 Chinmaya Mission centres worldwide and has authored several books on spirituality, meditation, leadership and personal development.
You Are The Sky: An Ancient Guide to Modern Feelings is now available at major bookstores and online platforms.
