Westland Books has announced the publication of Eternal Light: The Life and Legacy of the 14th Dalai Lama by senior journalist and author Dr Arvind Yadav, marking the 91st birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Scheduled for release on 30 July 2026, the biography has been published with the personal blessings of the Tibetan spiritual leader and will be available in English, Hindi and Telugu.
Positioned as one of the most comprehensive biographies of the Dalai Lama, Eternal Light traces his remarkable journey from his childhood in Tibet and years of monastic education to his emergence as one of the world’s most influential spiritual figures. Drawing on extensive archival research and historical sources, the book revisits key episodes in his life while placing them within the broader story of Tibet’s political upheaval, exile, and the resilience of its people.
Beyond recounting the Dalai Lama’s personal journey, the biography explores the Tibetan community’s efforts to preserve its culture, identity and faith in exile. It also revisits pivotal historical events that have shaped Tibet’s modern history, offering fresh context to narratives that have often been misunderstood or insufficiently documented.
Speaking about the book, His Holiness said he was grateful for the effort to make the biography available in multiple languages, enabling more readers to understand Tibetan history and the challenges faced by its people. He added that he hoped the book would inspire readers through the values he has long championed—love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, kindness and the oneness of humanity.
Author Dr Arvind Yadav described the Dalai Lama’s life as extraordinary, saying the book brings together several lesser-known aspects of his life that are being presented to readers for the first time. He expressed the hope that the biography would offer insights capable of inspiring a more meaningful and compassionate way of life.
