Westland Business has announced the publication of The Product Code: Shoper, Tally and the Making of an Entrepreneur, the final work of the late entrepreneur, product pioneer and business leader Shoaib Ahmed.
Part memoir and part practical guide, the book chronicles Ahmed’s journey of building one of India’s earliest software product companies while sharing lessons on entrepreneurship, product development, leadership and innovation.
Ahmed co-founded Vedha Automations in 1987 and developed Shoper, a retail software platform that transformed operations for leading Indian and global brands and pioneered the use of barcodes in organised retail. In 2005, Vedha was acquired by Tally Solutions, where Ahmed served as President and played a key role in the company’s growth into one of India’s leading business software enterprises.
According to the publisher, The Product Code offers an insider’s perspective on creating technology products that address real-world challenges while highlighting the importance of building lasting customer relationships and purpose-driven businesses.
A co-founder of iSPIRT and a mentor to entrepreneurs, Ahmed remained actively involved in strengthening India’s software product ecosystem throughout his career. The publisher describes the book as his enduring legacy, preserving the principles, experiences and values that shaped his entrepreneurial journey.
The Product Code: Shoper, Tally and the Making of an Entrepreneur is now available for pre-order at bookstores and online retailers across India.
Westland Books publishes titles across fiction and non-fiction, including business, politics, biography, popular science, health and self-help, through multiple imprints such as Westland Business, Context, Tranquebar, Ekadā, Red Panda and others.
