HarperCollins Children’s Books has launched Great Folktales of India, a four-book boxset under its bestselling Roots of India series, bringing together some of the country’s most enduring legends and folk traditions for young readers.

The collection features Singhasan Battisi by Deepa Agarwal and Sonali Agarwal, Betaal Pachisi by Mario Coelho, Folktales from the Deccan by Cheryl Rao, and Witty and Wondrous Folktales by Dr. Sunanda Kulkarni.

The boxset revisits iconic stories of Raja Vikramaditya and the magical throne of Singhasan Battisi, the classic Vikram-Betaal tales, folklore from the Deccan region, and a diverse selection of witty and wisdom-filled folktales from across India.

Executive Publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books, Tina Narang, said the collection celebrates the richness and diversity of India’s storytelling heritage. Mario Coelho presents Betaal Pachisi in verse, offering a fresh poetic interpretation of the twenty-five classic tales of King Vikram and Betaal. Cheryl Rao’s Folktales from the Deccan explores stories rooted in the history, culture and traditions of southern India, while Dr. Sunanda Kulkarni’s Witty and Wondrous Folktales showcases twenty-two stories that celebrate the wit, wisdom and imagination embedded in Indian folklore.
